Attractiveness and athletic ability

First impressions influence earnings, attention, and attraction.

A well-known labor-market study estimated a 5–10% earnings penalty for below-average looks, with a somewhat smaller premium for above-average looks. Occupational sorting did not explain the entire association.

Athletic ability adds a second signal for fitness, energy, coordination, and physical capability. Both answers are self-reported, so confidence is built into the result.

Score: attractiveness ranges from $0 to +$330,000 on the male track and −$100,000 to +$400,000 on the female track. Athletic ability can add up to $200,000 or $70,000 respectively.
